What do you do when you pass your advanced driving test but believe you could do better – go and pass the IAM Master driving test a few months later. David Mason did exactly that in just a few short months and he joins a small but very enthusiastic group of drivers who have obtained the highest civilian driving test award that the UK can offer.
David said “I passed my IAM test in August last year. I mentioned at the time that I was bit disappointed not to get a F1RST. Rather than have a retest, I decided to go for Masters qualification and I am pleased to say that I passed a few days ago. My mentor provided me with an excellent insight into the standards required for the Masters and the areas which I needed to improve in order to achieve Masters qualification. “
David’s Examiner was very complimentary – “I am pleased to say that he passed this assessment with a lovely demonstration of his advanced driving skills. After an excellent and comprehensive cockpit drill, David gave a consistently safe, systematic, smooth drive with an intelligent balance of progress and restraint. David anticipated and carried out an excellent overtake, using acceleration sense to drop in behind another car prior to the road narrowing – perfectly demonstrated and to be commended. He was courteous to other road users throughout and fully aware of vulnerable road users such as pedestrians and cyclists. He has a relaxed and unflustered manner, and it was a pleasure to be a passenger in his vehicle.”
So that’s what you do to impress the examiner and get a well deserved Masters qualification. Something for many of us to aspire to.
Well done David, and many congratulations from all of us at GAM.
