{"id":1232,"date":"2020-02-11T11:36:45","date_gmt":"2020-02-11T11:36:45","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/guildford-iam.org.uk\/?page_id=1232"},"modified":"2026-01-21T21:03:02","modified_gmt":"2026-01-21T21:03:02","slug":"members-next-steps","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/guildford-iam.org.uk\/?page_id=1232","title":{"rendered":"A Member&#8217;s Possible Next Steps"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>What are the next steps for an advanced driver and Member of GAM?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">There are five (independent) options (in no specific order):<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">1. <strong>Become an Observer<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Training will be given by GAM Observers to prepare you to become an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.iamroadsmart.com\/get-involved\/become-an-observer\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Observer<\/a>. The process starts with a Member becoming a Trainee Observer ; when assessed as ready by GAM&#8217;s Chief Observer, the Trainee is entered for the examination to become a National Observer, which is conducted by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.iamroadsmart.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">IAM RoadSmart<\/a> examiners. Not only can you share your love of advanced driving and help improve the standard of driving in GAM&#8217;s area, but it helps you keep up your own high driving standards.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">2. <strong>Take the Masters test<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Become a Master, the highest civilian driving award, by taking the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.iamroadsmart.com\/courses-services\/for-individuals\/iam-roadsmart-masters\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Masters<\/a> course provided by IAM RoadSmart.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">3. <strong>Become a Fellow<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Scroll down <a href=\"https:\/\/www.iamroadsmart.com\/get-involved\/membership-become-a-member\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Become a member<\/a> to see the benefits.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">4.  <strong>Take the Test again with the aim of achieving a F1RST<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Retake the Advanced Driving Test with some extra coaching to try to achieve a F1RST pass.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">5. <strong>Take an active role in the Group<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">GAM relies on volunteers to sustain the Group&#8217;s ability to provide advanced driving coaching to deliver increased road safety around Guildford and its environs.  Therefore, GAM needs active volunteers to take on a number of roles within the Group, some of which will gain a seat on the committee.
